Welcome to Rondebosch Montessori Preschool
Rondebosch Montessori Preschool (RMP) opened in January 2017. Situated in Rondebosch, Cape Town, we are a private, authentic Montessori preschool, and a member of the South African Montessori Association.
We take pride and are honoured by the trust parents place in us, and take exceptional care in guiding our future leaders.
At RMP, our goal is to prepare each child to become a citizen of the world by encouraging him or her to gain the skills and confidence to meet the challenges of self, family, community and the world at large. To achieve this, we ensure that we provide qualified staff, an excellent program, as well as an environment where our students are inspired to realize their academic, personal and social potential.
Our main objectives are:
- To provide a nurturing environment in which all children reach their full potential.
- To provide an environment in which all their areas of development are catered for and in which all areas of development are equally focused on.
- To provide a discriminatory-free environment for all children.
- To provide a loving and home-like environment for all children.
- To provide an environment in which basic general moral and ethical principles are upheld in which all children are valued regardless of their religion, race or creed.
The Montessori philosophy is based on supporting the holistic development of the child as they progress from birth to adulthood. It takes the broad vision of education as an aid for life.
As a way of teaching, the Montessori philosophy offers the view that knowledge isn’t passively gained by listening to words. Rather, it is gained through experiences in the surrounding environment.
Therefore, the Montessori approach uses a prepared classroom to inspire children towards a lifelong love of learning.
Qualities of the prepared classroom include structure, order, freedom of movement, and freedom of choice.
Within this structured space, children learn through hands-on experiences. Especially relevant are the beautifully made Montessori learning materials that children work with to make independent learning discoveries.
The children are guided in their learning by the Montessori teacher, who acts as the link between the children, and the prepared environment.
The teacher’s role is to prepare the classroom and observe and guide their students in their learning. As a result, children progress at their own pace, according to their own abilities.
Through work in the Montessori environment, children learn to develop concentration, self-discipline, and a love of learning.
